BLOOD DONATION DRIVE AT SILIFKE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL: "WE ARE BOUND TO EACH OTHER BY LIFE" BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN HELD

A single unit of blood can offer hope to an individual and a new lease on life to a family!

At Mersin University’s Silifke Vocational School, a blood donation campaign titled “Bound to Each Other by Heart” (“Birbirimize Candan Bağlıyız”) ​​was held to strengthen the spirit of social solidarity and highlight the vital importance of voluntary blood donation. Organized in collaboration with the Turkish Red Crescent (Türk Kızılay), the campaign underscored that blood donation is not merely an act of individual sensitivity, but a significant social responsibility that touches human lives.

The campaign took place on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, between 10:30 and 16:00, in the canteen area of ​​the Mersin University Silifke campus. It emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation and invited students and university staff to join in this act of solidarity. Guided by the call, “Become a blood donor and help us connect millions in need to life!” the event aimed to raise awareness about blood donation within the community and contribute to the expansion of a culture of voluntary giving.

Representatives from the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) provided a brief yet essential briefing prior to the donation process. They explained that blood donation is vital across a wide spectrum of medical needs—from emergency interventions and surgical operations to the treatment of various diseases and other critical health requirements. It was emphasized that because blood cannot be manufactured and can only be obtained through donations, the contributions of voluntary donors are exceptionally valuable.

The campaign held at the Silifke Vocational School fostered a sense of social responsibility within the university environment, heightened students' awareness of social issues, and promoted the spirit of volunteerism. The fact that a single person’s donation can support the treatment of multiple patients demonstrates that blood donation is more than just an individual act; it is a collective responsibility that concerns society as a whole.

Centered around the message "We can't do it without you!" ("Sensiz olmaz!"), the campaign served as a powerful expression of solidarity and the value placed on human life. Beyond its core educational activities, the Mersin University Silifke Vocational School remains committed to nurturing a sense of social responsibility through initiatives that generate social benefit.
